A Quarter Peal of 1264 changes of Plain Bob Major was rung half-muffled on the historic bells of the Old North Church in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, August 30, 2009 in grateful thanksgiving for the life of Edward Moore Kennedy, who served the people of Massachusetts in the United States Senate for so many years.

The major roads of Massachusetts have been bedecked in recent days with solar-powered highway signs reading "Thanks, Ted, from the people of Massachusetts!" Tens of thousands of people went down to Dorchester Bay to pay their respects on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, as the cortege passed through the North End of Boston, Cally Perry rang the Nine Tailors plus the 77 years of his age and the 47 years of his Senate service at Old North Church -- the perfect tower in which to ring for the Senator, looking across Paul Revere Mall as it does toward the church Senator Kennedy's mother attended frequently in the early part of the 20th Century. For the memorial quarter after the Old North service on Sunday, there were more ringers who wanted to ring than there are ropes, so the band would like to associate Danielle Morse and Cally Perry, who generously stood out so that the rest of us could ring, with this Quarter Peal.

The Nine Tailors and a Memorial Quarter Peal were rung at Old North Church in Boston in the days immediately following the death of Edward M. Kennedy who represented the people of Massachusetts in the US Senate for 47 years.
