Congratulations to Noah Smith, 15, on conducting his 10th quarter peal

On Tuesday, October 6th, at Grace church in Charleston, Noah Smith, age 15, conducted his 10th quarter peal. This is an outstanding achievement for any ringer but to achieve this at the age of 15 surely sets a record for North America.

Noah's home tower is Grace church in Charleston SC . He has also conducted quarters at St. James in Hendersonville and St. Michael's in Charleston. He has rung 19 quarters and one peal. He hopes to have a second peal attempt with a visiting band in November.

Noah is a sophomore at the Academic Magnet High school and his favorite subjects are science and foreign languages. He has an avid interest in foreign travel and within the last year has searched out ringing in both the Netherlands and Italy along with his father, Roy, also a ringer. In the summer of 2008, on a family vacation, he and his father visited the first permanent change ringing tower on Continental Europe in Dordrecht, South Holland. They rang the traditional carillon and tolling bells in the church as well. The following New Years, he and his father visited bellringers near Verona, Italy. There, they observed and tried the Veronese style of ringing, which is similar to the traditional English-style. Noah hopes to continue traveling and seeing the different types of musical bells in the world.

The quarter was a 1260 of grandsire/plain bob doubles and was rung by, L to R in the photo, Vic Schwartz, David Porter, Roy Smith, Noah Smith, Steve Collins and Charlie Rhoden. This achievement being in October is particularly special to the Grace ringers as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Grace bells this month.
